States Looking for Medicaid Solutions

As state Medicaid costs rise, states continue to look for new and better ways to limit the growth of their Medicaid spending.

A recent health policy brief produced by the journal Health Affairs and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation examines the requirements states must continue to fulfill regardless of what solutions they try and outlines many of the most frequently discussed reform proposals, including Medicaid block grants, easing eligibility requirements, eliminating the waiver process, introducing greater cost-sharing, repealing maintenance-of-effort requirements, and more.

Urban safety-net hospitals have an enormous stake in the paths states ultimately choose to follow.
