States Scramble to Meet Reform Requirements

Many states are struggling to meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act – especially with the need to create health insurance exchanges.

Those exchanges need to be up and running when the individual insurance mandate takes effect in 2014, but according to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, only 14 states and the District of Columbia have made legislative progress toward establishing their exchanges.

States also need to scale up their Medicaid programs to prepare for a significant influx of new enrollees once the eligibility standards are lowered in 2014.
