Urban Hospitals Fighting to Ensure Access to Care

Across the country, urban safety-net hospitals work to continue serving their communities in the face of large numbers of uninsured and Medicaid patients.  This problem appears to be reaching a crisis point in Brooklyn, where eight of the ten remaining private hospitals are struggling financially.  State officials appear to realize they are on the verge of a crisis and are looking for new ways to ensure access to care for Brooklyn’s large low-income population.
