Challenges

• Until recently, the House and Senate both had more influential leaders from urban states. The shift to leadership from rural areas has come at the expense of urban interests.
• NAUH must continue to stress the current financial condition of urban hospitals and counteract the widely held view that only rural hospitals are suffering in the current environment.
• National hospital associations must represent all of their members. If urban hospitals want solutions to their problems from Washington, they will have to advocate those solutions themselves.
